If a Loved One Has Hearing Difficulty

Recent research has confirmed that mental skills deteriorate more rapidly when the mind is not exercised. Interacting with others in a variety of ways and settings is the most natural form of mental exercise. Of course, social interaction requires understanding. After all, that’s what good communication is all about. Unfortunately, hearing loss reduces involvement in activities that are enriching socially, mentally and emotionally.

Concerns That Cause Resistance to Seeking Help

Cost -- This is a common reason given for avoiding hearing help. It is rare that families cannot come to the support of a needy relative. In addition, hearing aid prices vary widely. And, for those with truly limited financial resources, we are glad to share information about other avenues of help.

Aging --  Hearing aid use is viewed by some as evidence of aging. Yet we know that the need to ask people to repeat what was said, or misinterpreting what was said, are far more dramatic signs of aging than the presence of two barely visible hearing aids.

Visibility -- Some people have the fear that a hearing aid will make them look unattractive. In fact, many hearing aid models are virtually unnoticeable.

Background noise -- Current technology has been successful in reducing background noise in most hearing aids, especially ones with digital technology.

Friend had a bad experience – Strange as it may sound, many people are dissuaded from trying hearing aids if a friend has been unhappy with theirs. Please! If you are in this category call us and make an appointment for both you AND your friend. It’s very possible that we will end up with two very happy hearing aid users.
